Excerpts from a musician’s inbox; December 2017

The Powers that Be here at ... have put together a run of show that isn’t what was initially discussed at all.

..the theme is speakeasy lite – touches of Rose Rabbit Lye and Absinth (Vegas show) so I figure anything jazzy, sexy, dark, mysterious – with a little Christmas thrown in.

All of you are playing in the foyer (typically the main entrance to the house ...). The piano is unfortunately positioned across the room from the rest of the band, that is the only place it will fit.

There has been a shift in our programming and we’d love for you, as a group, to plan a set list – or an idea of one – for our viewing.

..you would be able to drive up to the house to unload & then, as there is no street parking, you would need to immediately move your vehicle off-site…

The ideal set time is 45-50 minutes. While I know this is short for jamming out, it will also allow for breaks & switching up the combinations in a way that keeps it fresh & fun for everyone.

I encourage you to take the breaks you need, and also to jump in if you’re feeling the music & there’s room for you.

I have also talked to them about sexy instrumental solos. That will be tbd.

Please look at the charts and let me know if they make sense. They are not pretty.

There is a restroom at the bottom of the stairs. While it is unlikely that guests will be using that restroom since they are downstairs for only 20 minutes at a time, it will not be closed off to them.

Please keep in mind that this is a formal event. They have called it black tie, but I doubt that guests will be in tuxedos. Dress to impress- men in nice suits, women in cocktail or formal dresses, unless you have been instructed otherwise.

There is a boxing match, it should last for about 20 minutes. You may not have many people in the audience at that point, and it may be loud outside if people get excited by the fight.

A drum solo would need to be timed fairly well, but it’s something we’d enjoy!!
