Whitney Drums Tom Mount

Whitney Drums tom-tom mounts provide a simple to use mounting connection while enhancing the aesthetic of the drum set. The only hint of them you see from the outside of the drum are two small rubber washers, one with a hole for the suspension rod, and one for a wingnut to gently secure the drum in place as most of the mount is hidden inside of the drum.

These two upside-down pictures of the inside of a drum show the hidden position lock and the Whitney ISIS (internal suspension and isolation system) hidden tom mount. Rather than hanging the weight of the drum from the shell as most traditional tom mounts do, these custom-engineered, hand-made mounts suspend the drum from its reinforcement rim. This takes the tension from the weight of the drum off of the shell preventing possible dampening of the shell’s vibration and allows the drum to have a much thinner shell, making it much lighter than an identically sized traditional tom. The lighter weight tom also means that you don’t need heavy hardware to mount it with.

Whitney Drums Tom MountThese pictures are of the 13” (the larger of my two toms) tom. It has a 13” head and a nearly 15” shell (like the snare does), is deeper than the snare and sounds like a 14” floor-tom. It also has a removable resonant (bottom) head that allows you to nest the smaller 10” tom inside of it during transport.

You may have noticed the tom mount rod lock paddle is flat on one side. This lines up with the flat side of the suspension rod preventing the tom from pivoting on the rod when you are playing. The little screws poking up through the reinforcement ring are the tuning lugs.

I find the mounts to be plenty strong, out of the way, lightweight, and very well thought out. My kit’s mounts are from 2017-2023 and future mounts may evolve from these.
